KADE as one of Ireland's Development Education Centres has the following 3 primary functions:

  1. To provide an accessible resource centre for educator
  2. To operate an enquiries service and to provide support and comment on Development Education perspectives and issues
  3. To provide training and support to the formal and non-formal education sector, such as schools, community groups and youth workers

A DE Centre works predominantly in its local area and has a structure of local accountability.

The KADE Resource Centre provides:

  • advice and guidance on DE theory and materials for use in both the formal and non- formal sector (e.g.’ DE theory, what is it about? DE resource materials, their usefulness for me…?’, etc.
  • contact details for national and international DE-related organisations
  • internet access to DE sites (research time must be booked in advance)
  • DE speakers/trainers for local workshops, public meetings, courses and seminars
  • assistance to people/groups organising their own DE events
  • material on specific subjects such as anti-racism, interculturalism, refugee/asylum seeker issues, etc.

DE Centre Resource Room / members’ lending library:

  • Audio-visual materials (posters, slide sets, tapes, videos)
  • Books
  • Cassette player
  • Culture kits (artefacts from a particular country/culture)
  • Leaflets and catalogues of specific organisations/campaigns
  • Periodicals
  • Photocopying facilities
  • Reference files
  • Teaching/training packs,
  • TV/video machine for on-site viewing of videos.
