This submission to the NCCA is made by the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) in relation to the two proposed senior cycle short courses Enterprise and Psychology.
The short courses are, in our view, an exciting and innovative approach to realise the flexibility and learner-centered approach that the NCCA has laid out in its “Towards Learning” document as a necessity to improve teaching and learning at senior cycle. Short courses have the potential to add more variety to the existing offer at senior cycle and to allow curriculum planning to be more flexible and based on relevant needs of students. In introducing this new element we feel a number of issues need further consideration.
