Palestine Education Initiative

The Palestine Education Initiative is a new not for profit adult education provider. Launched in May 2011 it delivers one off talks, residential weekends and an eight-session development education course -‘Promises.’
The motivation for the Palestine Education Initiative came from the belief that media portrayals of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict have not provided a full or accurate representation. Crucially it is our view that the stories, perspectives and lived experience of those who live in the region have gone untold. ‘Promises’ seeks to redress this omission.
‘Promises’ is a participant driven course that provides an introduction to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict for activists and campaigners, and for those who are just interested. Specifically it seeks to encourage empathy for those caught in the Conflict and to have participants review what they know by examining the issues of racism, human rights, media portrayals and campaigning. At the end of the course it is hoped participants will be better advocates for a human rights based peace in the Middle East. As one course participant said: “The course really deconstructed the Conflict from a human rights perspective and enabled me to view it from a less emotionally driven point of view.”
