Social Media and Development Education: Galway Report

Jan 25 2010

REPORT

We had a very successful training in Galway on Friday the 22nd Jan. The training was a collaboration between IDEA and the Galway One World Centre. 11 people, IDEA members and interested educators and activists, gathered together in the Huston School of Film and Digital Media in NUI Galway for the day.

After the introductions we went through a presentation with links to many different types of social media, showing some examples of where social media has been and is being used for social change, awareness-raising and education. Then participants selected to explore one tool in more depth. In small groups Ning sites, facebook profiles and Blogs were set up (and in some cases quickly deleted again!). We finished by considering how these tools would apply to our own work contexts.

You can see the presentation we made on the ning site:

Follow-up discussions will take place there too, so keep coming back for updates!
