Description of Work in DE

In 2013 I completed a four year full time degree in International Development at UCC, more recently, I have also just completed a one year LLM in International Human Rights Law, also at UCC. I decided to return to college as a mature student, after living, working and travelling abroad for many years in London, Dubai, and in Vietnam, specifically to concentrate on the area of human rights and global social justice, particularly from a development perspective. More specifically still, from the perspective of indigenous peoples (although not limited to indigenous peoples) and the impact and consequences of industrial development policies, for example forced displacement by the extraction industry. More broadly, my interests lie in the social and cultural effects of economic globalisation. For example, loss of cultural diversity and the impact of globalisation on economic, social and cultural rights. On a personal note, while completing my law degree in 2013/14 I gave tutorials to first year development students on issues such as development and the media, and globalisation and development. I found that I enjoyed the process very much and as a result would now like to further explore the field.
