Description of Work in DE

PBI Ireland was established in 2014 and is a branch of the international NGO Peace Brigades International that was founded in 1987. We send teams of volunteers to areas of conflict and post-conflict to provide nonviolent protective accompaniment to local human rights defenders, organizations and communities at risk. We have experience in training volunteers in non violent peace intervention tactics in our projects overseas, and use DevEd methodologies to do so. Country groups like PBI Ireland run training days and weekend trainings that draw on that experience to recruit potential volunteers, to raise awareness about tools for non-violent conflict resolution, and promote critical thinking about internationals engagement in the global south. The trainings use experiential learning methodologies and role plays that are consistent with development education. PBI Ireland has run training weekends and one day trainings since 2014. We have recently developed a peace education course that we are piloting in Dublin, that runs over 5 evenings.
