 UCD Volunteers Overseas

Organisation Name: UCD Volunteers Overseas

Description of Work in DE

UCD Volunteers Overseas is a charitable organisation which offers students, staff and alumni of University College Dublin the opportunity to engage in voluntary work in developing countries. UCDVO currently runs projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua and Tanzania, and works alongside local communities in carrying out small-scale development projects which respond to local needs.   UCDVO works on projects in the areas of education, environment, healthcare, construction and information technology. UCDVO not only provides opportunities for volunteers and host communities to share and develop skills, it also generates greater understanding and respect for differing cultures and life experiences. Volunteers who participate in the UCDVO programme take part in development education training workshops pre-departure and on return. Volunteers are encouraged to engage in awareness raising activities which highlight the connections between wider development issues and issues which they encounter locally in Ireland.
