USI campaigns and trains members in the area of social justice, how to tackle inequality on campuses and being active citizens. Working with young people between the ages of 17 to 25 (and mature students) USI has worked in the areas of up-skilling students through conferences like Activist Academy, Students’ Union Training, and Class Rep Training. USI campaigns on issues like climate change, TTIP, empowering women and tackling gender inequality, living wage, abolishing zero-hour contracts, workers’ rights, mental health, international issues and students’ rights, human rights, repealing the 8th amendment, removing the barriers to education for migrants and refugees, and promoting active citizenship through volunteering, registering to vote and ultimately voting. USI campaigns against austerity and has a clear position to work with other organisaitons that share an ethos with it. USI’s campaigns are research led and brings it’s members with it by empowering students and officers on the issues.
