Description of Work in DE

WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) is Ireland’s national programme for Development Education (DE) at post-primary level. It is a one-stop shop of funding, training, resources and guidance for post-primary schools to engage in DE. The aim of the programme is to increase the number and mix of post-primary schools engaging in and availing of quality DE. The core elements of WWGS are: • Outreach/support – including training and events for students and teachers, and tailored school support visits; • Grants - Annual Grant Call is held to support DE at post-primary level (open to schools, NGOs and Networks); • Tools and Resource Development - to enable a whole school approach to DE, primarily: - The Global Passport (DE Award Scheme): this framework is also used as an audit/planning tool for schools; - The Self Assessment Tool (SAT): being implemented as part of whole-school evaluation processes; - ‘Doing DE’ series of guidance notes: developed in line with Junior Cycle reform. • Monitoring and Evaluation - to ensure consistent approach to DE for schools and validation/highlighting of DE good practice. • Coordination – ensuring broad geographic/demographic spread of schools are provided with opportunities to engage with DE
