Bridge 47 Project

Bridge 47: Building Global Citizenship was a four-year European Commission-funded project, co-created by 15 European and global organisations. It had four strands – the Bridge 47 Global Network, Advocacy, Partnerships, and Innovation.

About Bridge 47

The project brought Global Citizenship Education (GCE) practitioners, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), academics and other stakeholders from across Europe and beyond together to network, engage in a transformative learning journey, to create a Roadmap and policy papers in support of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 4.7 and to engage in cross-sector partnerships to advance the mission of GCE.

IDEA's Role

IDEA led on the Partnership work of the project, focusing on building partnerships for Development Education both nationally and at a European level. Our aim was to broaden the practice and impact of Development Education through developing partnerships with new audiences, within the context of delivering the SDGs.

The type of partnerships developed include:

  • Knowledge exchange partnerships, encouraging universities and academics to increase their teaching and research of GCE in higher education and to grow their interaction with those who are working in GCE.
  • Advocacy partnerships with government institutions and others who can influence policy change on GCE.
  • Exploratory partnerships which involve less familiar collaboration for GCE practitioners with those in areas such as the private sector.

“I think the involvement in the Bridge 47 project is very beneficial - I found the workshop in Belgrade very good earlier in the year. I think this kind of international networking is really helpful and IDEA shares a lot of that with members from time to time."
