IDEA is running a two-day train-the-trainer workshop on Design Thinking for Solving Global Challenges, 26-27 June, in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, 5-9 Temple Bar, Dublin 2. Each day will run from 9am-5:30pm.

The aim of this training workshop is to empower Development Education/Global Citizenship Education practitioners to use ‘Design Thinking’ in their work. Design Thinking is a mindset and human-centred approach to develop and deliver innovative ideas, change and solutions to complicated problems. It is an activity-based process with a strong emphasis on teamwork and co-creation. There is a growing interest in Design Thinking as a new and innovative approach to understand and address global challenges. If you want to see how Design Thinking can impact the world of education, please click here.

The workshop will be facilitated by two Design Thinking experts from Design Thinkers Academy Amsterdam (Global Head Office). It is the one of the leading ‘design-driven’ innovation agencies, represented in 25 countries and train, develop and facilitate multidisciplinary teams and communities to drive positive change. They have worked with varied clients, including companies, governments and NGOs.

Day 1 will focus on an introduction to Design Thinking. Participants will learn about the principles and mindsets that underpin Design Thinking such as learning-by-doing, empathy and co-creation. They will also experience the Design Thinking process by working on a hands-on challenge and using various Design Thinking tools and methods.

Day 2 will focus on the use of Design Thinking in facilitation. Participants will be asked to co-create and facilitate a Design Thinking workshop. This will give them immediate experience of implementing Design Thinking and also an opportunity to reflect how Design Thinking can be used in their own work. The workshop co-created by participants will become part of the forum IDEA is organising this September, in partnership with Business in the Community Northern Ireland, to bring business leaders together with civil society groups to explore solutions to global challenges and discuss cross-sector partnership opportunities. More details about the forum to follow soon.

Cost:  €100 for members of IDEA and €200 for non-members. A general 2-day Design Thinking course usually costs over €1,500 per person. So, don’t miss out this great opportunity! The fee includes participation in both days of the training workshop, lunch as well as Design Thinking templates and tools to take away for each participant. A certificate of attendance will also be handed out after the workshop.

The workshop will be limited to 20 people only, so that maximum interaction is possible. Therefore, we will prioritise IDEA members, especially for those who are active in Development Education/Global Citizenship Education facilitation work.
