There is No Alternative or is there? We need to talk about economics in GCE.
Date: Wednesday, 14 October, 10.30am - 4.30pm
Location: Brandsma Room in the Carmelite Centre
Central to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) is the commitment to exploring the root causes. Probably the biggest 'root cause' is our neo liberal model of economics. IDEA's Autumn training will take place on Wednesday14 October from 10.30-4.30 in the Brandsma Room in the Carmelite Centre.
As summarised in the research paper commissioned by Financial Justice Ireland and the Centre for Global Education 'Exploring the Elephant in the Room' in their recommendations:
'There is a need for professional development of DE in facilitating the development of explicit economic considerations in their work'. Therefore this training in collaboration with Financial Justice Ireland, will:
- Familiarise participants with critiques of the dominant economic ideology, policies, and their impact and introduce them to the several alternatives models.
- Develop participants’ mindset that gives explicit attention to the economic factors that affect or are affected by whichever social, environmental or political issue that is being investigated.
