IDEA works with our members to create policy change for the Global Citizenship Education sector in Ireland and internationally. We support our members’ engagement in policy-making processes, by identifying opportunities and facilitating collaboration to develop policy positions, submissions and research.
IDEA members engage with policy makers through IDEA’s policy and advocacy work and member-driven spaces that represent Formal Education, Adult and Community Education, Higher Education and the Global Youth Work Sector. This has enabled them to input into numerous processes since 2014.
Between 2015 and 2025, IDEA and its members made 37 submissions to national-level policy development and/or evaluation consultations and four submissions to international policy development processes. Recent examples include the Global Education Network Europe (GENE) review of Global Education in Ireland in 2025, the mid-term review of the Irish Aid Global Citizenship Education Strategy 2021-2025 and the consultation on Ireland’s priorities and policy programme for its Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026. In addition, since 2019, IDEA has been producing and disseminating an annual pre-Budget submission.
IDEA members engage with curriculum consultations in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Between 2015 and 2025, IDEA and its members made 19 collective submissions on curriculum reform within early years, primary and post-primary education
