This conference marked 15 years of IDEA, with a focus on impact and stories of change. As well as exploring the change taking place through the climate strikes it was also a moment to celebrate the impact of Development Education through the launch of the Irish Global Solidarity In 100 Objects Project and the sharing of innovation within the sector and impact that Development Education has had on people’s lives.

2019: Stories of Change: creating active global citizens

2018: Transformative Education for Global Citizenship: SDG 4.7 in Ireland

The aim of this conference was to bring together those working in the Development Education sector with representatives from sectors, whose work also supports this target, to explore the opportunities and challenges offered by SDG 4.7. We hosted this in collaboration with AONTAS and the National Youth Council of Ireland.

In 2015 we celebrated the global multilateral process to create the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Accord, but since then the international context has changed significantly. To reflect this, the IDEA conference 2017 explored how Development Educators can, through their work and in partnership with others, strengthen global citizenship in a time of growing isolationism, protectionism, and xenophobia around the world.

2017: Global Citizenship in a Time of Isolationism

2016: Migrating Perspectives

The focus of this conference was on the role for Development Education in supporting awareness, understanding and action around issues related to migration.
