CGE: Development Education and Human Rights Seminar

The Centre for Global Education and the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education are hosting a seminar which will present and debate the content of Issue 25 of the Policy and Practice Journal on the theme of Development Education and Human Rights, Friday, 09 February, 10.30am – 12.30pm (12.30 – 1.30pm Light lunch). It will take place in the Seamus Heaney Lecture Theatre, Dublin City University, St Patrick’s campus, Drumcondra.

The theme of this issue is ‘Development Education and Human Rights’ and focuses on: the strong connections between human rights and development education in formal education, from primary to third level; their shared commitment to sustainability and gender-based rights; the role of research in developing participatory, rights-based strategies; and the importance of criticality in transformative practice. Authors who contributed articles on this theme to Issue 26 of the journal will present their papers and encourage discussion on the key issues that connect these related sectors of education. Students, academics, development educators and human rights practitioner are all invited to attend.

IDEA is seeking a consultant to support its team in organising the Annual Conference and 20th Anniversary on Wednesday 04 September. This will include support in various areas as described in the Terms of References. The IDEA annual conference is a core part of our work and has been held annually for over a decade. More information on all previous conferences is available on our website and specifically here for 2023 and here for 2022 . This year the theme focuses on the impact of GCE in Ireland and we will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of IDEA. Please submit your CV highlighting relevant experience, referees for similar work, and a brief proposed plan/methodology.
